LinkedIn Becomes a Key Information Source for AI Chatbots

LinkedIn is rapidly emerging as one of the most important information sources used by artificial intelligence chatbots such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. New research indicates that professional content shared on the platform is increasingly being referenced by AI systems when responding to user queries.
According to data from marketing analytics platform Profound, LinkedIn has experienced a sharp rise in citation frequency by AI chatbots since late 2025. The study, which analyzed millions of prompts between November 15, 2025, and February 15, 2026, found that LinkedIn has become the most frequently cited domain in professional-related AI searches.
Content formats on LinkedIn play a significant role in these citations. Posts, long-form articles, and newsletters contribute about 35% of LinkedIn references used by AI systems, while user profiles account for roughly 14.5%. These publicly available posts provide valuable insights and professional information that AI tools rely on to answer complex or career-related questions.
The trend reflects a broader shift in how online visibility works in the age of artificial intelligence. Experts say professional reputation is no longer shaped only by human audiences but also by how AI systems interpret and present information about individuals and organizations. Erin Lanuti, co-founder of LinkedIn intelligence platform Lilypath, noted that clear and informative profiles are becoming increasingly important because AI tools may prioritize them when delivering results.
At the same time, LinkedIn has clarified that AI tools can only access content that users have chosen to make public. The company maintains safeguards to protect member data and prevent unauthorized data scraping.
Community-driven platforms such as Reddit, Wikipedia, and YouTube are also frequently cited by AI systems because they contain authentic discussions and detailed information. However, LinkedIn’s professional content now plays a central role in shaping how AI platforms answer business and career-related questions.
Overall, the growing influence of LinkedIn in AI-powered search highlights the importance for professionals, companies, and brands to maintain strong and informative profiles. As generative AI continues to shape digital visibility, thoughtful engagement on professional platforms may significantly expand online credibility and reach.
